Jarreau was asked to come to Maui a day before his MACC performance to meet with the students, and he "jumped in with both feet," said MACC president and CEO Art Vento. Jarreau spent an hour with the kids and discussed art, music and the power of the arts to transform a person and a community.
From Vento's post: "It was a great day, and a great connection was made. This experience with a world-renowned performer and our Maui students is completely in alignment with the values and programs that we want to make a deep impact on our community. When we returned Mr. Jarreau to the SpeediShuttle van for travel back to the hotel, he turned to me and said, 'Art Vento, this alone was worth the trip. Whatever happens tomorrow at the show is just a bonus!'"
